Underfloor Heating | FAQs
What are the benefits of Underfloor heating?
Underfloor heating has lots of benefits including lower running costs, higher comfort level than with radiator systems, low maintenance and gives you more space in your property.
Is it cheaper to run than a radiator systems?
Yes, the water used in an underfloor heating system is around 45°C rather than the 75°C typically used in traditional radiator systems. It is possible to achieve savings of around 35 – 40% against a traditional radiator system, providing that the property is adequately insulated and the system correctly designed.
Is underfloor heating more expensive to install than a traditional Radiator system?
Depending on the quality of radiators you are installing underfloor heating can actually give you a cost saving over traditional systems.
Won’t the floor get really hot?
No, typical floor temperatures are around 27°C, so the floor won’t feel hot to the touch.
What happens if there is a leak in the floor?
As there are no joints in the floor it is extremely unlikely that there will be a leak, to check the system a high pressure test is done prior to the screed being installed. Our pipe is also stringently tested during manufacture.
Is it possible to use radiators and underfloor heating within the same building?
Yes it is, many systems use underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators in the upper floors. Our range of control systems allow the two systems to work together. However it is becoming significantly more common due to the comfort of Underfloor heating to be installed in all floors.
How is the underfloor heating controlled?
We offer a wide range of control systems including both wired and radio solutions, the controls measure both the water temperature within the system and the air temperature in the room to keep the system running efficiently. Options are available for set back (reduced temperature running) to keep the system ticking over whilst you are away. We also offer weather compensation to take into account the external temperature effects on the property.
Does each room have to have the same temperature?
No, our control systems and system designs allow for individual rooms to have different temperatures, for example a warm bathroom and a cooler temperature in the bedrooms.
What floor coverings can be used with Underfloor heating?
Most types of floor coverings can be used including stone and ceramic tiles, wood finishes and carpet, although care must be taken to ensure that carpet and underlays do not exceed 2.5 Tog values.
What type of floor constructions can underfloor heating be used with?
We offer underfloor heating solutions for all types of floor constructions.
